When a basement full of boxes met a vision for something more, we saw the makings of a modern speakeasy.
Sometimes, the best rooms aren’t found upstairs. They’re imagined beneath our feet.
This once-unfinished basement in had all the makings of a cozy storage zone: exposed utilities, spare carpet, some holiday bins, and a collection of pinball machines waiting for love. But where others saw clutter, our client saw possibility.
Their dream? A private lounge, bar, and game room where friends could gather, bottles could be poured, and every night could feel like a night out.
Step One: Envision the Escape
We started by understanding the client’s unique lifestyle:
They loved hosting
They collected high-end spirits
And they wanted a space that felt equal parts cozy and elevated
From that, we designed a custom floor plan featuring:
A handcrafted bar with liquor display
Full-size shuffleboard and pool table zones
A media lounge with theater seating
A concealed vault room
And a guest-ready, one-of-a-kind bourbon-inspired bathroom
Step Two: Build the Experience
We installed wide-plank LVP flooring for durability, wrapped the ceiling in custom wood beams, and backed the bar wall with distressed brick veneer for that timeless feel.
The bar features:
Granite countertops
Open shelving
Brick backsplash
Under-cabinet lighting
And enough spirits to rival your favorite cocktail spot
A few steps over, guests can unwind around the reclaimed wood pool table or line up for classic shuffleboard, flanked by neon signs and a vintage bottle collection.
Step Three: Design the Details
We didn’t stop at the big spaces.
✔️ The TV room was reimagined with theater lighting, a custom sound setup, and recliners positioned perfectly for weekend movies and football season.
✔️ The bathroom got the full speakeasy treatment—exposed brick, tongue-and-groove barrel staves, and a copper keg-style urinal.
✔️ And behind one concealed wall? A climate-controlled vault room with secure weapon storage that blends form and function.
The Result: A Hidden Hangout That’s Anything but Basic
This basement isn’t just a remodel—it’s a retreat.
With thoughtful design, intentional details, and a clear client vision, we turned underutilized square footage into the most popular space in the house.
It’s equal parts speakeasy, sports bar, movie lounge, and secret vault—and it’s 100% BGW.
